A composition in four acts, this piece is about character development over the course of a narrative. The characters of the piece take many forms: instruments and timbral effects, melodic and rhythmic motifs, and even textures and tempi. These characters each develop in their own way over the course of the work. The soloists, much like their Shakespearean namesakes, comment and pontificate on the themes of the piece, often speaking over each other as though in an argument over the metaphysical implications of their existence.
