about

This was the first big band piece I wrote when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. It was workshopped in the summer of 2020 with members of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop and remotely recorded in early autumn.

I called it "Pastoral Piece" in dedication to the many parks and rural areas I've visited. My wife and I cherish the rare opportunities we have to escape the city, especially in the post-COVID world. When writing this piece, I tried to channel the serenity of our favorite hiking spots in New Jersey and upstate New York.
